Columbian Squires
-The Saint Kateri Columbian Squires Circle #5177 is the youth leadership branch of the Knights of Columbus for young Catholic men from 10-17 years of age. Our circle was formed in 2008 (as the Saint Leonides Circle) and today continues as the top-ranked Squires circle in the state of New Jersey.
-The core principles of the Squires include:
Faith, Family, Parish, Community, and Patriotism to the United States.
-Our Squires have raised over $80,000 to benefit many charities including the Samaritan Inn, Family Promise, the Sparta Food Pantry, Alzheimer's New Jersey, Wounded Veterans causes, Children's hospitals, and several international projects including Ecuador and Italy earthquake relief and Puerto Rico hurricane relief.
-For the last 11 years, the Knights of Columbus World Headquarters in New Haven, CT have recognized the Saint Kateri Squires with the two service awards given only to the top Squires circles in the world.
-Our Squires attend a variety of area schools including Sparta Middle and High School, Reverend Brown and Pope John XXIII High School, Byram Intermediate and Lenape Valley High School, Newton High School, and a number of others. They are good students, involved in sports and clubs, and other organizations including the Boy Scouts.
-Upon turning 18, the Squire has the opportunity to become a First Degree member of the Knights of Columbus while also remaining a Squire for an additional year.
-Squires develop important social and leadership skills including public speaking, organizational and project management, and community outreach.
-The Squires motto is Esto Dignus which means "Be Worthy".
